Fast, Uniform Emergence — An Unbeatable Seedbed Combination

DescriptionPage
There are 6,272,640 square inches in every acre. We designed the new Tiger-Mate® 255 field cultivator and 2000 series Early Riser® planter to help you challenge the status quo and maximize every single one of them.

Benefits of a High-Efficiency System

  • They’re Better Together

    They’re Better Together

More than ever, every seed must thrive in order to achieve a successful crop. Productivity depends on seed-by-seed precision. If you think that’s not possible or isn’t practical, think again. Better yet, pair the Tiger-Mate 255 with the 2000 series Early Riser planter to reap the benefits of a high-efficiency seedbed combined with the ultimate in seed placement accuracy.

  • The Perfect Seedbed, From Surface to Floor

The Perfect Seedbed, From Surface to Floor

There's more to creating a high-efficiency seedbed than meets the eye. The beefed-up shank assembly on the Tiger-Mate 255 provides the consistent, flat subsurface floor necessary for seed placement that encourages fast germination and even emergence. Higher operating speeds — up to 10 miles per hour — and a concave, swept-back shank design help improve clod sizing, residue movement and soil mixing. The result is an ideal seedbed with all of the elements of success, from top to bottom, created more efficiently than any tillage tool you've experienced.

  • Accuracy and Seed Placement, Consistently

    Accuracy and Seed Placement, Consistently

Field conditions change — from farm to farm and from day to day. The in-cab planter control system and tool-free adjustments on 2000 series Early Riser planters allow you to fine-tune settings on the go. Advanced Seed Delivery™ ensures perfectly placed seeds at your speed — whether 4 miles per hour or 10. Consider how even one factory-integrated technology upgrade could pay off. Take floating residue managers, for example. Giving your germinating crop a clearer path to emergence can improve stands and uniformity. It’s that kind of seed-by-seed, plant-by-plant precision that can help you achieve top yields.

Seedbed Sensing Technology for Agronomic Tillage

Seedbed Sensing Technology for Agronomic Tillage

Combined with the Tiger-Mate 255, AFS Soil Command™ is the first seedbed monitoring technology that allows producers to measure and optimize the agronomic quality of their seedbed — right from the tractor cab. This advanced technology delivers real-time feedback from the seedbed. This helps the operator make yield-enhancing adjustments and eliminate the presence of an uneven seedbed floor that causes yield-robbing planter row unit bounce.

Breaking Seedbed Assumptions

Dig Deeper to Challenge the Status Quo

Dig Deeper to Challenge the Status Quo

The Tiger-Mate 255 gives you a tillage tool that moves seedbed preparation beyond the way you’ve always done it. The ability to create an ideal seedbed throughout the soil profile at speeds previously unimagined epitomizes High-Efficiency Farming. But if you think seedbed productivity starts and ends with the final pass ahead of the planter, think again.

  • Assumption: I set my field cultivator and now I’m ready to hit my fields.

Reality: Field conditions are constantly changing. Certainly, the seedbed surface is critical. But you need to dig deeper — to the floor. Each time the field cultivator shank trips or floats, the sweep pivots and creates gouges in the seedbed floor that make the planter row unit bounce during planting. With new AFS Soil Command™ seedbed sensing technology, you can identify problem areas and give operators the knowledge and tools to fix them before it’s too late.

  • Assumption: I don’t need to adjust my soil preparation approach. My planter can react to my field conditions.

Reality: While planter down force systems have certainly advanced, they are still reacting to the seedbed created by the spring tillage pass.  Creating a high-efficiency seedbed is critical for planting success at the highest level of productivity, and that starts with a smooth seedbed floor. The seedbed floor determines how your planter's row units ride across the field — not to mention how well they can cut residue. The floor should be firm and smooth. A rough subsurface floor can affect a planter’s ability to place seed at a consistent depth even with advanced row unit down pressure systems.   Inconsistent depth potentially leads to uneven emergence and lower yield potential.

Assumption: Come Spring, I Hit My Fields With a Disk, and They’re Ready to Plant

  • Assumption: After all, aren't seedbeds made in the spring?

Reality: When the gathering chains grab that last cornstalk, it's time to celebrate — at least until you get the combine in the shed. But on the drive home, you're already thinking about next year. And you should be. Seedbed prep is a year-round job. Your Axial-Flow® combine, with stalk and residue processing and even distribution out the back, puts you at an advantage, but there's still work to do. A fall tillage pass with the right equipment, whether an Ecolo-Tiger® disk ripper, the True-Tandem™ Barracuda or a True-Tandem disk harrow, can help you size residue, mix and bury it or leave a protective surface layer to set your fields up for success.

  • Assumption: It’s all about mph.

Reality: It seems obvious. The faster you travel, the more acres you cover and the more productive your day. But miles per hour don’t matter if you’re creating a subpar seedbed. Achieving a high-efficiency seedbed requires proper settings and the right conditioning system for the field. Single-point hydraulic depth control, tool-free leveling and a floating-hitch option on the Tiger-Mate 255 help you quickly make the adjustments that produce the ideal seedbed at higher speeds. In fact, early results from Case IH research plots show that running the Tiger-Mate 255 at higher speeds improves clod sizing without sacrificing seedbed conditions. So, yes, with the right equipment, it is all about miles per hour.

Planting Efficiency Without Results Isn’t Efficient

  • Match Planter Speed to Field Conditions

Match Planter Speed to Field Conditions

Just because you can plant fast doesn’t mean you should. Instead, aim to plant at an optimal speed — one that allows your planter to achieve peak performance and consistency, according to the field conditions you’re dealt on any given day.

  • Efficient Planting Means More Than Planting Fast

Efficient Planting Means More Than Planting Fast

You get only one chance to plant your crop and place the seed in a way that gives it the best chance of reaching its full yield potential. Technology on the 2000 series Early Riser planter provides that seed-by-seed precision, and it starts at the individual row level. Rather than a 24-row planter lumbering across your fields, automatic and in-cab adjustments allow the 2000 Early Riser to be like 24, one-row planters instantaneously adjusting as conditions change.

Assumption: Spacing and speed — it’s all I need.

  • Assumption: Spacing is everything.

Reality: Plant spacing is important, and a picket-fence stand looks great from the highway. But quick, uniform emergence is a better measure of planting success. In fact, university Extension research from across the Midwest shows fields that get off to a fast, uniform start yield better. In its analysis, Iowa State University specialists found that when factors, including seeding depth and crop residue distribution, slowed germination and emergence for just 17 percent of corn plants, yields dropped by 4 percent to 8 percent — or 8 to 16 bushels per acre on 200-bushel-per acre corn.

  • Assumption: High-speed planting is productive planting.

Reality: High-efficiency planting is measured at the end of the season, not at the end of the day. It's about grain in the bin, not miles per hour. High-efficiency planting hits the sweet spot between speed and performance to help you make the most of ideal conditions. Consider how features available with 2000 series Early Riser planters — such as in-cab adjustments to residue managers, row-closing down pressure or hydraulic downforce — can help you quickly fine-tune row unit performance. Or think about how tool-free adjustments and easy maintenance increase uptime and acres planted — make that acres planted well.

  • Assumption: Planting technology will make up for poor seedbed conditions.

Reality: Technology is great, but it’s not a shortcut to success. Achieving top yields starts with focusing on the fundamentals — fertility, seedbed prep, weed control, timely planting and moisture preservation, to name a few. Get the basics right and then turn to technology to make the small refinements that produce big benefits. Strive to help every seed planted produce a harvestable crop — and that starts with a good seedbed. Consider that losing just 1,000 ears per acre cuts yields by 5 to 7 bushels per acre — potentially more than 1,000 bushels on a quarter section. Regardless of market conditions, those kinds of losses hit your bottom line hard.
