Farmers, cooperatives, financial institutions and agricultural stakeholders gathered at
Afgoi Farm to explore modern mechanization solutions and financing opportunities for
Somali agriculture.
Mendrisio, September 02, 2026
Afgoi, Somalia – Case IH distributor Gaalooge Agrobusiness Enterprise celebrated its
sixth anniversary by hosting a Farmers’ Field Day at its Afgoi Farm, bringing
together farmers, agricultural cooperatives, financial institutions and key stakeholders
from across Somalia for a day dedicated to agricultural mechanization, knowledge
sharing and collaboration.
The event attracted farmers from Afgoi, Awdheegle, Balcad, Daafeed, Qoryooley
and Janaale districts, as well as agricultural cooperatives representing multiple
farming communities throughout the region. Participation also included representatives
from Asal Microfinance and Agro Bank, alongside the Chairman and
management team of Gaalooge Agrobusiness Enterprise. The event received
extensive media coverage from SNTV, Horn Cable TV, SBC TV, Shabelle TV, and the Media Department of Somalia’s Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation
(MOAI).
Designed to promote agricultural mechanization and facilitate stronger connections
between farmers and financial institutions, the event provided participants with the
opportunity to evaluate modern farming technologies under real operating
conditions. The program focused on helping farmers better understand available
machinery options, identify solutions suited to their farm size and operational needs,
and explore financing opportunities that can support investments in mechanization.
A key highlight of the event was the live demonstration of three Case IH tractor
models: Case IH JX95, Case IH JXT75, Case IH JXT55.
The tractors were demonstrated with a range of implements commonly used by Somali
farmers, including Multi-Crop Planter, Disc Harrow and Disc Plough.
Through live field demonstrations, participants were able to observe machinery
performance across different agricultural applications, including land preparation,
seedbed preparation and planting operations. Farmers had the opportunity to
compare tractor capabilities, discuss operational requirements with Gaalooge
technicians and assess which equipment configurations would best meet their
production goals.
Throughout the event, Gaalooge’s local technical team was on hand to provide
practical guidance on machinery operation, maintenance requirements, spare parts
availability and aftersales support. The demonstrations reinforced the company's
commitment to ensuring farmers receive not only reliable equipment but also the
technical expertise required to maximize machine uptime and productivity.
In addition to the machinery showcase, a major focus of the event was improving
access to agricultural finance. Representatives from Asal Microfinance and Agro Bank
engaged directly with farmers to discuss available financing solutions and to better
understand the challenges associated with agricultural credit. Discussions highlighted
the need for financing products tailored to seasonal farming income and reinforced the
importance of cooperation between equipment suppliers, financial institutions and
farmer organizations.
Several action points emerged from the discussions, including the creation of stronger
district-based farmer groups and cooperatives, the development of financing solutions
specifically designed for agricultural customers, and enhanced collaboration between
Gaalooge, lending institutions and farming organizations to facilitate broader access to
modern agricultural machinery. Participants also emphasized the importance of
continuing regular field demonstrations to increase awareness of
mechanization technologies and best farming practices.
The Farmers’ Field Day demonstrated the growing interest in agricultural
mechanization across Somalia and highlighted the important role that partnerships
between farmers, cooperatives, financial institutions and equipment providers can play
in strengthening food production, improving farm efficiency and supporting longterm
agricultural development. Through its partnership with Case IH, Gaalooge
remains committed to helping Somali farmers gain access to modern machinery,
technical expertise and innovative solutions that contribute to a more productive
and resilient agricultural sector.
