Better Seed-to-Soil Contact
After making the switch to the Precision Disk 500T air drill, Steve Sukup of Paulding County, Ohio, reached a new milestone. It was the first planting season he was able to drill straight through — without having to stop and unplug any seed tubes. A higher bulk seed tank and more accessible meters and hoses help simplify his daily maintenance, replacing the time he used to spend crawling underneath a machine with greater uptime. Faced with heavy clay soil, Steve appreciates the ability to raise the drill’s down pressure. “After setting the down pressure higher, we had excellent stands — some of the best stands in drilled soybeans that we’ve had in a long time,” Steve says. He also credits parallel linkage for superior seed-to-soil contact and accurate seed depth, even in difficult conditions. And after just one season with Section Automated Control, he anticipates savings as a result of automated shut-offs, calling the system “smooth as a whistle.”
