Spring is here, and after a long winter in many parts of the country, farmers are looking forward to planting. At Case IH, we strive to help growers achieve photocopy plants, which are plants that emerge at the same time, with the same stalk thickness, that go on to arrive at the same leaf and ear stages providing longer, more uniform ear length, and ultimately higher yield potential.
This new Be Ready blog series will explore the six agronomic drivers of seed placement accuracy when planting:
- Proper seed depth
- Uniform seed depth across the planter and throughout the field
- Good soil-to-seed contact
- Uniformly correct soil density all around the seed
- Accurate seed population
- Accurate in-row seed spacing
“It’s important to note that the first four agronomic drivers have the potential to impact corn yields by 9 to 22 percent,” says Bill Hoeg, Case IH Planter Marketing Manager. “The last two drivers have the potential to impact corn yields by 2 to 4 percent.”
