Case IH Highlighted in Academic Study

In late 2021, Utah State University (USU) conducted an alfalfa study comparing a Case IH windrower with two leading competitors. Alfalfa leaves contain the majority of nutritious value for the crop, up to 2 to 3 times more protein content than the stems, which means keeping the plant intact during harvest season is key to maximizing its value. Out in the field, Case IH led the pack.

In the USU study, researchers compared the amount of crop scraps and debris (loose leaves or leaf parts, small pieces of stem, etc.) created by each of the windrowers. Of the four windrower/header combinations tested, the Case IH windrowers with rubber conditioner rolls retained 99.99% of leaves—the most intact alfalfa leaves out of any equipment tested. In addition, the study found that the amount of stem pieces 4 inches or shorter created by the Case IH windrower was 17% less than its nearest competitor.
