Get Fall Tillage Right With the Right Adjustments
Seedbed preparation starts at harvest with even residue distribution out the back of your combine. But it’s the next step that sets up your fields for success come spring — if you choose the right tillage tool and get it set right.
Whether slicing and sizing the toughest crop residue, breaking through compaction or thoroughly mixing soil to boost organic matter and improve tilth, the full line of Case IH tillage equipment can help you more precisely prepare each field according to your unique conditions.
Ultimately, the goal is to ready your ground for final pass with the Tiger-Mate™ 255 field cultivator, creating a high-efficiency seedbed where the 2000 series Early Riser® planter can perfectly place each seed. Here is how our tillage options can meet your varying needs:
Ecolo-Tiger® disk rippers. As the industry’s go-to primary tillage tool, the Ecolo-Tiger 875 disk ripper creates a first-pass soil surface that settles level prior to secondary tillage and planting. Aggressive disk-cutting, high underframe clearance and a minimum 36-inch spacing between points allow the Ecolo-Tiger to handle tough, heavy residue. Watch the video to learn more about how to find the compaction layer and then set and adjust the Ecolo-Tiger. From there, Case IH Tiger points provide a lift, twist and roll action that:
- Shatters compaction
- Relocates soil particles
- Creates an open, mellow, healthier soil with excellent pore space and distribution
- Allows for maximum soil tilth
True-Tandem™ 335VT vertical tillage tool. Whether slicing through tough residue or uprooting root balls, the True-Tandem 335VT vertical tillage tool helps you level the soil and move your fields closer to a high-efficiency seedbed. Earth Metal® 20-inch VT wave blades penetrate hard soils and break through surface compaction and properly mix residue and nutrients.
True-Tandem 335 Barracuda vertical tillage tool. The True-Tandem 335 Barracuda effectively sizes and incorporates even the most stubborn crop residue to leave behind a blacker surface finish than other vertical tillage tools. Its rugged design is built for reliability at high speeds, and the aggressive 22-inch serrated blades cut residue up to 4 inches deep to break up hard, dry soils for increased nutrient cycling.
Tiger-Mate 255 field cultivator. Look to the Tiger-Mate 255 field cultivator to put the finishing touches on your high-efficiency seedbed — a consistent, flat subsurface floor necessary for seed placement that encourages fast germination and even emergence. In certain residue and field conditions, such as wheat or soybean stubble, the Tiger-Mate 255 can even serve as a primary-tillage tool.
Your Case IH dealer can help you select the best tillage tool — or combination of tools — for your individual farming practices, so you can get to work creating your own high-efficiency seedbed.
