No matter the size of your farming operation, you’re likely looking hard for ways to balance resources, labor and investment for maximum returns. It’s a proposition Canadian farmer Jason Girodat considers almost daily. Case IH equipment and technology are helping him meet the challenge.
Jason recently has taken over the farming operation reins from his father, Gerald. They grow dryland wheat, pulse crops and oilseeds on about 14,000 acres near Shaunavon in southwest Saskatchewan. For nearly 30 years, the Girodats have added value to their crops by producing pedigreed seed. Their products include spring and winter durum wheat, barley, triticale, chickpeas, peas, lentils and flax grown for several seed companies.
Doing more with less
The Girodats would like to grow their seed production business to add value to even more of their crops. But farming in a sparsely populated region, and in an area where expanding oil fields further pressure the labor market, makes the decision tougher.
Case IH Axial-Flow® combines and draper heads help them harvest the high-quality crop their seed production business demands. Adding autoguidance has helped them get more done every day. They’re considering how Case IH Advanced Farming Systems (AFS) and, specifically, AFS Connect™ telematics could help them become even more efficient.
